Dark Side of the Moon came out in 1973 and then simply refused to leave — hundreds of weeks on the charts, generation after generation finding it again. The 50th anniversary artwork marks the point where it became genuinely difficult to think of another record that has done the same.
A beer glass is a better piece of merchandise than it sounds. It isn’t something you wear once a fortnight and put back in a drawer. It comes out every time you pour one, sits in front of you for the evening, and goes back in the cupboard where you’ll see it tomorrow. That’s a lot of use for one object.
It also works where most band merchandise doesn’t — a dinner table, a kitchen shelf, a proper glass in your hand rather than a logo across your chest. Quieter, and arguably more satisfying for it.
The album has a long association with sitting still and listening properly. A glass of something, the record on, nowhere to be. This fits that evening exactly.
Easy gift for a fan, too. No sizing, no guesswork, and far more likely to be used than another shirt.
